It’s not a secret to anyone that I absolutely love sweaters. It’s not just sweaters specifically, I love cardigans and have for the longest time. I remember my very first J Crew cardigan purchase. It’s was a bright canary yellow and just wonderful. Looking back now I wish I had kept it as it would be right on trend now.

Cardigans have swept the fashion world yet again in a new way and I am so here for it. If you recall last year around this time I posted a blog called Chunky Cardigans for Late Winter. The cardigans I spoke about in that post are almost the complete opposite kind of sweaters we are seeing now. Right now the cardigans are thinner knit, shorter waistlines and buttoned to be styled as a complete top.

Styling cardigans

I am so loving this look and bought a few of these styles of cardigans for myself. They’re perfect to wear out with jeans and sneakers or flats for a casual look. I’ll even wear with leggings for a more put together at home look. I’ve even seen some stylings with silky slip dresses to dress it up for a night out or a date night.

I am styling my cardigan from Princess Polly, with my favorite jeans, basic white mules from Luca and Grae, and my favorite Lack of Color hat.

I also really like how the buttons are more like embellishments and oftentimes are featured prominently on the cardigan. I’ve seen dark buttons on a lighter cardigan, really large buttons, or even more ornate pearl buttons to make a statement.

Aside from buttons the lettuce edge from the 90s is really coming back as well and having a big moment on a lot of these cardigans. I am always here for a good ruffle so give me anything lettuce edged and I’ll be the happiest ever.

Also the majority of the cardigans I am seeing in store are often a beautiful neutral or pastel. This is a big win with me as the majority of my closet is in the same color palette. This makes for a seamless transition into my everyday wardrobe.

What are you thoughts on this trend? Is it too girly for you, or are you all about it? Let me know and take a look at my top picks of all the cardigans I wish that were currently hanging in my closet.
